Brook Lopez is someone the Brooklyn Nets to keep and at all cost. With that said, rumors about him opting out of his current contract should not be alarming since it could mean one of two things.

One is that he is opting out so that he can sign a longer and lucrative contract with the franchise and the other is to see which team can offer him a better contract heading into free agency.

From the looks of it, any of the two could happen and the Nets cannot do anything about it for now.

Lopez has proven his worth despite rumors in the offseason that the Nets would be trading him. In a surprise twist of things, the Nets had a change of heart and discovered the value of Lopez and thus doused water on all rumors linking Lopez to other teams.

Despite his bout with injuries, Lopez has proven what he brings to the team. Though not flashy, he gets the job done and could be the one of the club's cornerstones as they invest in younger players moving forward.

But to keep Lopez, the Nets have to offer him an irresistible contract. Lopez is looking for security and if the Nets can provide him that, well and good.

However this is assuming that other teams would not dangle temping offers at the 7-footer. Several teams have shown interest in the past and are likely to make another go for Lopez. The list includes the Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets and the Denver Nuggets, all teams seeking ceiling which Lopez obviously provides.

But Brooklyn seems to be decided to keep Lopez in their wing, someone at the top of their priority list together with Thaddeus Young.

So will Brook jump ship? Lopez is expected to decide on that this coming June 29 so watch out for it.
