Brooklyn Nets NBA 2015 trade news: Mason Plumlee to be traded for draft pick?

For the Brooklyn Nets, the focus right now seems to be retaining Brook Lopez.

Lopez, who is expected to be looking at offers on the table this coming NBA Free Agency, is someone the Nets want to keep. That includes signing him to a long-term deal which would entail a large chunk of the Nets salary cap.

Should everything fall into place and Lopez stays, could Mason Plumlee still have a place on the roster?

Many feel apparently that Plumlee and Lopez simply do not jive and should not be playing together. Both are playing the same position and chances are Plumlee's performance will dip further if he stays with Lopez on board.

If this is the case, then it is not surprising to hear that the Nets are considering letting go of Plumlee in a possible trade. In exchange, the Nets are looking to move up in the coming NBA Draft where they can infuse new blood to their rotation.

The Nets will be selecting 29th and 41st overall in the coming NBA Draft. The team is set to hold a final workout this coming Monday, June 22 and the players in line are the following:

  • Olivier Hanlan
  • Andrew Harrison
  • Sam Thompson
  • Pat Connaughton
  • Brandon Dawson
  • Cliff Alexander

Though not of those names ring a bell since the focus is really on the top 10, anyone could be a possible pick for the Nets. But if they can pull off a trade with the other teams seeded higher, the chances of them getting the better known players could be broadened.

Plumlee could be a valuable asset should he move though it remains to be seen which team would be interested in the 25 year old Duke Alumnus. He was selected 22nd overall by the Nets in 2013.

If so, Plumlee would join other players on the trading block. The Nets are believed to be entertaining offers for Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, moves which are seen to free up some cap space particularly for Brook Lopez and perhaps Thaddeus Young.
