The Bible is full of God's promises that have now been made available to us through the power in Jesus' name. Throughout our walk with God, these promises He has made can sometimes be challenged, forgotten and sometimes even attacked, but God desires that we take full control of those promises and keep them stored up in our hearts.

It is in God's nature to be a promise-keeper. In Joshua 21:45, it says, "Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass." And if God is the same yesterday, today and forever, He will keep His promises the way He kept His promises before.

But sometimes, we have to admit that God's promises can be challenged either by us and our unfaithfulness or by the schemes of the enemy. That's why God calls us to take care of our hearts that we may remain in His promises and His faithfulness. Here are three ways that we can protect God's promises in our hearts.

Be reminded of God's faithfulness

Remembering the One who made the promise helps us hold on to the promise. The enemy will want you to believe that you no longer deserve the promises of God because of your sins, but God's promise comes by faith not by works because Jesus has already paid the price for us.

Let us remember always that the God who gave us the promises that He has declared upon us through His spoken and written word will come to pass, not because of who we are but because of who He is. Psalm 77:11 tells us, "I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old."

Guard the truth of God's Word

The one stable source of God's promises is His Word, the Bible. That's why it's extremely crucial that we continue to grow in reading God's Word and meditating on it so that we may be reminded of the promises that are now ours through Jesus Christ. Psalm 119:11 says, "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

If there's anything our hearts must be full of always it's the Word God has spoken to us through the Bible. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life."

Be filled with God's perfect love

1 John 4:18 reminds us, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love."

When we are afraid, it's probably because we forget the promises of God, but when we hold on to God's love and experience His unconditional, overwhelming and extravagant love through the Holy Spirit, we will watch all fears and doubts go out the window. God's love drives out all fear, pain and anxiety.
