'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' news: No single-player campaign for PS3 and Xbox 360

Gamers of last-gen consoles won't be able to experience the joys of shooting down enemies as a single player in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3." This is because PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the title will only feature the multiplayer and Zombies gameplay.

On the official blog for the video game franchise, Activision revealed the reason behind this resolution. "The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware."

Activision reiterates that "delivering the best possible gameplay experience on all platforms is always our highest priority" and so the publisher promised that the entirety of the multiplayer mode of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will be at the disposal of gamers with older consoles.

This includes the new momentum-based chain-movement system and nine Black Ops Specialist soldiers, "which fundamentally change the way players engage in combat."Of course, they will also be able to hammer some ravaging flesh-eaters in the "1940s film-noir inspired adventure" Zombie mode.

Activision also noted that "other features built to leverage the next generation hardware," which include the all new weapon paint shop and the suite of e-sports tools the game publisher introduced not too long ago, will all be exclusive to PC, Xbox One and PS4 players.

The lack of these features resulted in the $10 cut on the price of the title. Instead of $59.99, Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers will get a copy of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" for $49.99 when it hits the shelves on Nov. 6.

Forbes says that Activision's move could be the foreshadowing of the company's imminent abandonment of the Xbox 360 and PS3. This is bad news to those who both want to savor an all-inclusive, unadulterated "Call of Duty" experience while still holding on to their precious last-gen consoles.
