'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' news: Modding tools for PC version expected in 2016

The modding tools for the personal computer (PC) version of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" are expected to arrive in 2016, or at least that's the plan.

According to Polygon, even though both the modding and the mapping tools for the game are currently penciled in to arrive in 2016, the game's developer, Treyarch, has cautioned fans to not completely expect that those will be released on time.

Treyarch did not directly say that there is a chance that the modding and mapping tools could be dropped altogether, but the company does hint that if the features are scrapped, they will still be replaced with other offerings.

Still, the plan for now is to eventually provide modding and mapping tools for the PC version of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," and as they are currently configured, they could offer players some interesting things to play around with.

Thanks to the modding and mapping tools, players will reportedly be able to create their very own maps and game modes for the game. Players will also be receiving unranked dedicated server files to enable them to run the game with the mods already applied from anywhere. There will also be an unranked server browser provided to players so that they can also join other games that feature mods.

Alpha testing for the tools is expected to take place in March 2016.

In related news, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" campaign director Jason Blundell explained why the last generation versions of the game will not be featuring a campaign mode.

In an interview published in the Official Xbox Magazine and reported on by Games Radar, Blundell boiled the reasoning down to publisher Activision's desire to just remove the campaign mode instead of offering something that is decidedly inferior to the one found on current generation ports of the game.

This means that players looking to get the entirety of the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" experience will need to play it on its current generation platforms.
