An insignificant detail at the official "Call of Duty" website might be a signal of things to come for both Wii U fans and the shooter series. 

Game publisher Activision has started teasing hardcore fans about the upcoming "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" with a trailer. However, the video is more of a cryptic reminder that the "Black Ops" series is alive and well, and no other telling details can be gleaned from the video. Moreover, the only confirmed information about the game is that Treyarch will be the one to develop the title, much like the partnership on the previous "Black Ops 2" and "Call of Duty: Ghosts" games; and that the continuing saga would again take place in a future setting.

Says Activision, "'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare." 

After the trailer was released, an enterprising NeoGAF member discovered recently-added information on the official "Call of Duty" website — registered players can now add their Nintendo Network ID. 

The only confirmed systems that would take the upcoming "CoD" game are the PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. However, most game observers note that the recent addition of the Nintendo Network ID to the registration process on the "Call of Duty" website may portend a possible Wii U version of an upcoming "Call of Duty" game.

It should be noted that for the long-running series, only two versions made it to the Wii U: "Black Ops 2" and "Ghosts." For reasons unknown, Activision decided to skip the console when last year's "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" was launched.
