Information shared by Nintendo-focused writer and "industry insider" Marcus Sellars, about the 2018 entry of the "Call of Duty" franchise began circulating online. Sellars suggested that "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" is set to release this year.

Sellars said in a Twitter post on Feb. 3 that "Black Ops 4" is set to release this year to the PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One and Windows PC — the platforms on which the previous entries in the series were released. Sellars also said that "Black Ops 4" will be released to the Nintendo Switch and that the Switch version will support downloadable content (DLC), high-definition (HD) Rumble and motion controls. Moreover, he said that the Switch version of the game is being ported by a company familiar with the "Call of Duty" franchise. Sellar also hinted that the upcoming game is "set in the modern times and is boots on the ground."

Sellars' tweet was followed up by a report from Eurogamer on Feb. 6, which stated that multiple sources have confirmed that "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" is in development at Treyarch. Treyarch is the studio developing the previous "Black Ops" games for publisher Activision. Eurogamer corroborated Sellars' tweet on what "Black Ops 4" will be all about — the game will be set in modern times after the bad reception following the release of "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare," which had a futuristic setting. Eurogamer is still verifying Sellars' claim that the upcoming video game will be released to the Switch. The said publication noted that the upcoming fourth installment is due to launch late in the year.

Activision has yet to comment on the rumor. Both Sellars and Eurogamer have leaked information about video games prior to their releases. While some gamers consider the information reliable, the arrival of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" will be cemented only after an official statement. If the rumor proves to be true, then Activision will be releasing the fourth installment of the series late in the year (November, specifically) as what it traditionally does for the "Call of Duty" franchise.
