The upcoming movie "Call of Duty: Sicario 2," which is based on the popular "Call of Duty" game franchise, has been in its pre-production stage for a while now. Latest reports note that the movie may have finally found a director to lead the production.

Variety first reported that Activision Blizzard Studios, the film division of the developer Activision Blizzard, is currently in negotiations with a potential director for the film. That director is no other than Stefano Sollima. Sollima, who is known for directing mostly crime-drama works, may be Activision Blizzard's best bet to helm the film. Also, for those who do not know, Sollima has also directed the other upcoming film, "Sicario 2: Soldado."

Whether it is indeed Sollima who will direct the "Call of Duty" movie, fans are advised to wait for official confirmation from Sollima himself or from the studio. After all, if there would be anyone who would have fresh news about the whole Sicario situation, it would definitely be the director himself. 

What is known so far is that Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk, the presidents of Activision Blizzard Studios, will themselves be producing the film alongside their chief executive Bobby Kotick. Sollima also has his own contribution to the film as the writer of the script alongside Coco Francini.

No plot details have been revealed yet but the plans for it are quite huge and may seem quite naive to some people. Sher revealed his ambition to turn the big gaming franchise into a cinematic world that can get itself on par with other worlds such as Marvel or DC. After all, they do have a lot of different versions of the game.

Given that Sollima is yet to be officially on board and that Activision Blizzard has not partnered with any distributor yet, it may take a few years before the movie gets released.
