The first-person shooter video game "Call of Duty: WWII" is kicking off its first community event. Dubbed "Winter Siege," the event will bring brand-new content, including a new map, new guns and equipment that will allow players to suit up for the cold weather.

"Winter Siege" is now available for "Call of Duty: WWII" players on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will run until Jan. 2, 2018. During the event, the game's headquarters gets a new winter-themed look with a Christmas tree and a bunch of lights.

Players will be able to battle it out in the snow as the player-favorite Carentan map gets a new snow-covered version. Previously, this version of the map was only available to Season Pass owners but with "Winter Siege," all players will have access to it for free.

To complete the snowy experience, new winter-themed equipment, including armor, uniforms and accessories, will also be available.

The event's new weapons include the Gewehr 43 rifle, the Sten submachine gun and the GPMG light machine gun. Players also get free supply drops each week. These supply drops give players a chance to get anything from weapons to calling cards and other items.

"Winter Siege" will also bring back the mode Gun Game, wherein players are tasked to get one kill each on a number of weapons. The mode is a competitive one, and the twist makes for very interesting matches.

Along with the new look of the headquarters, a new quartermaster, Captain Butcher, will be visiting the camp for the duration of the event. He also appeared in the trailer for the event to introduce the new features of "Winter Siege." Captain Butcher sounds a lot like Captain Price from the "Modern Warfare" series, although it has not yet been revealed if there is a narrative connection between the games.
