As a holiday treat for fans, the airing of the highly anticipated "Call the Midwife" Christmas special in the U.S. is scheduled on the same day as its British broadcast.

In a press release, executive producer Pippa Harris revealed their plans for the airing of the Christmas special of the popular BBC period drama, which reads:

"Heidi Thomas has written our most moving and enjoyable Holiday Special to date, filled with festive cheer, snow and, of course, newborn babies. We're delighted that together with PBS we can share this holiday treat with all our U.S. fans."

However, Harris opted to keep mum about the plot for the upcoming Christmas special episode. But a report from KPBS revealed that drama unfolds while the community and staff of the Nonnatus House are busy preparing for their televised concert.

In the middle of all the planning, one of the staff goes missing. This will prompt an immediate manhunt to find the missing person. Despite all the chaos, the spirit of Christmas will return to the nursing convent after a grieving mother receives an unexpected surprise.

Beth Hoppe, chief programming executive and general audience programming general manager of PBS, is quoted in the same report that "Call the Midwife" is one of the most popular shows from their network. "We are thankful to Neal Street, who continue to be our partners on the series, and together we are excited to present our holiday programming," the PBS executive added.

"Call the Midwife" stars Jenny Agutter as Nonnatus House's sister-in-charge Sister Julienne, Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan, Pam Ferris as Sister Evangeline, and Bryony Hannah as Sister Mary Cynthia, among others.

The Christmas special of "Call the Midwife" will be broadcasted by BBC One in the U.K. and PBS in the U.S. on Dec. 25. Meanwhile, the fifth season of the series is expected to air in Spring 2016.
