Call waiting - Church hopes to attract new ordinands

Young people aged 16 to 19 who think they might be called into ordained ministry are being encouraged to attend the Call Waiting … Conference 2009.

The conference is organised by the Ministry Division of the Archbishops’ Council’s and will be held at Westcott House and Ridley Hall theological colleges in Cambridge on 17 to 19 April.

“There will be the chance to grill ordinands and young curates to find out what it’s really like in ordained ministry,” National Vocations Officer the Rev Jules Cave Bergquist says.

“I’m really hoping that this will be a formative experience for a lot of young people. I think that younger people bring to the ministry so many great gifts - a sort of can-do attitude, an enthusiasm and a freshness that perhaps some of us have lost a little bit over the years.”

Those interested in the Call Waiting… Conference 2009 can hear more from Rev Bergquist in the latest Church of England Podcast, available at www.cofe.anglican.org/podcast

The Call Waiting website features audio interviews with real-life young ordinands, curates and priests, and an A4 magazine full of essential information for prospective ordinands.
