Days after his unanimous win over Miguel Cotto in the WBC middleweight division, Canelo Alvarez is still the main talk in the boxing world, and speculations about his next upcoming fights continue to surface online.

According to Bad Left Hook, it is more than likely that Alvarez will follow in the footsteps of the recently retired Floyd Mayweather Jr. in fight schedules and will apparently have his next fight in May next year. After the May fight, Alvarez will have another bout in September 2016.

Specifically, the fights will be on May 7 and Sept. 17, two big dates in the boxing world. During the continuous reign of Mayweather, particularly the most recent period, these two dates always managed to draw in big crowds.

The Guardian also agreed on these speculations and noted that almost all of the biggest fights in the last 10 years or so happened near these dates, close to Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independence Day weekends. In addition, as Mayweather and Pacquiao's presence in the boxing world appear to wane, Alvarez's recent win made him the current fair-haired boy in the industry and therefore should be the one to follow in their footsteps.

As for who will Alvarez fight next, it has been strongly hinted that as the top fighter in the WBC, he may need to establish his presence clearer by engaging in another middleweight battle, this time against another fair-haired boy – Gennady Golovkin. Golovkin himself also came from a winning bout, unifying the WBA and IBF belts by destroying David Lemieux in the eighth round.

Meanwhile, although both Alvarez and Golovkin's names are the most heard in the industry currently, some rumors have also been floating on how Pacquiao plan to either continue or finish his career. Talks of a rematch between him and Mayweather already seem cloudy with Mayweather's retirement, while some close followers of Pacquiao, particularly his family, have already announced that he has already proven himself in and out of the ring and can already hang his gloves permanently.
