Canelo Alvarez next fight news 2015: Boxer ready for Gennady Golovkin

As far as Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez is concerned, he is ready to fight anyone, and yes, that includes the knockout (KO) artist known as Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin.

Barring any untoward issues, Alvarez is on a collision course to face Triple G. Golovkin is the mandatory challenger recognized by the World Boxing Council (WBC), which made it clear that the winner of the Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto is required to face the Kazakh boxer.

Right now, Alvarez is riding high after winning via unanimous decision over Cotto at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas last Saturday. Understandably, Alvarez was still pumped up and oozing with adrenalin when the press threw questions his way, mostly about his next fight plans.

On whether his claims were just spur of the moment or factual, the fact is that Alvarez needs to be prepared to face Golovkin soon.

But there are some obstacles along the way, and one is the celebrated catchweight issue. Alvarez made it clear that he would fight only at 155 pounds, while Golovkin likewise clarified that he would not go down the weight class.

Alvarez will actually have no choice because the WBC is unlikely to recognize his provision, meaning the Mexican will either have to find a way to fight at 160 pounds (the set weight) or give up the lineal title which will likely be given to Triple G.

Other than that, Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya is not committing yet on setting up Alvarez against Golovkin. Explosive as he may be, Alvarez may find the going rough against someone like Golovkin who has won most of his fights via devastating knockouts. Golovkin showed that in his last fight, a KO win over David Lemieux.

De La Hoya plans to sit down with Alvarez and map out what he plans to do next. Will he go up to 160 pounds or vacate the WBC title?
