Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez may be on cloud nine these days but once he does eventually get his feet back on the ground, he will likely have to deal with a harsh reality particularly when it comes to his next opponent.

His next mandatory opponent as called for by the World Boxing Council (WBC) is none other than Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin, the Kazakh knockout artist who has been barreling his way against opponents mercilessly which is obviously a reason why some have been wary to face him.

While Miguel Cotto is off the hook for his loss, Alvarez now has to deal with it. And as everyone knows, he has made it clear that he would only fight at his preferred catchweight which is 155 pounds.

With the WBC middleweight lineal title now under his grasp, it remains to be seen if he will continue to hold on to that title or vacate it altogether. Golovkin has made it known that he will not step down to the said catchweight and the WBC is inclined as well not to recognize that clause, meaning Alvarez has no choice.

Aside from that, the fight fans are now voicing out their take as well. Apparently, many don't want to see him use his power to pressure challengers, including Triple G.

With that in the air, a much awaited showdown between Alvarez and Golovkin will likely take some time to materialize. That is if the WBC does allow Alvarez to use the coming year to fight voluntary defenses instead of an immediate one with Triple G.

Doing so will allow Alvarez to somehow tip the scales and move up and prepare for the Kazakh destroyer; that is if he does have plans. Oscar De La Hoya and Alvarez feel that Golovkin lacks the pay-per-view (PPV) draw to create a blockbuster fight happen, although there are some who say otherwise.

Hence, it remains to be seen how Alvarez and company approach this issue as fans await another mega bout which can hopefully happen in 2016.
