'Captain America3 ' spoilers: return of Emily VanCamp's Agent 13

Emily VanCamp as Agent 13Marvel

According to a report from Deadline, Emily VanCamp's Agent 13 a.k.a. Sharon Carter will be coming back in "Captain America: Civil War."

The character first appeared in last year's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" as an undercover agent using the alias Kate. She was assigned to monitor and protect Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America. She disguised herself as his neighbor but when Hydra started taking over S.H.I.E.L.D., she blew her cover and aided Rogers in dismantling the enemy's plans. After S.H.I.E.L.D. collapsed, the character became a CIA agent and continued to help the rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. heroes, as seen in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

While the movie never blatantly explained that she is Sharon Carter, Peggy Carter's niece or grandaughter, fans have come to accept her as such. VanCamp even stated that she was playing Sharon Carter when she was initially cast for the film. It is likely that her identity will be revealed in "Civil War" to further her relationship with Rogers.

Deadline's sources did not reveal what Agent 13's role would be in "Civil War" but given the nature of the film, which pits Captain America against Iron Man due to a civil rights concern regarding superheroes, fans have speculated that Agent 13 will develop into one of his strongest supporters and maybe into his new love interest, as she is in the comic books.

VanCamp will be joining Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Olsen, and Scarlett Johansson in the film. Rumors also suggest that a new Spider-Man will be featured in the movie but, as of the time of writing, no confirmed casting for the role has been announced.

"Captain America: Civil War" opens in theaters nationwide on May 6, 2016. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, based on a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
