Recently, talks about Robert Downey Jr. negotiating his contract with Marvel have been making rounds. But, Variety made a startling revelation. Downey isn't negotiating to be in "Iron Man" or "The Avengers" movie franchise; it is actually for "Captain America 3" to be released on 2016.

Variety explains that "Captain America 3" may follow the story of Marvel's "Civil War," and it is a story that will pit Iron Man and Captain America against each other. Here's why:

The Civil War happens when Speedball and Nitro fight on national television. Nitro, the villain, goes berserk and kills civilians. Since it's live on TV, everyone sees it, and this pushes lawmakers to make a Superhero Registration Act. This law requires every superhero to register their identities and whereabouts. It also says that they should be licensed by the federal government to do their superhero jobs.

This is where the disagreement takes place. Captain America doesn't agree with the proposed law, while Iron Man supports it. This splits all superheroes into two sides, and it will end violently with two sides fighting it out.

This doesn't mean that Iron Man will be the main villain in "Captain America 3," but of course, it will depend on how the audience looks at it. The story is basically a reflection of real-life political events. Actually, it can be likened to "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" wherein good guys fight the good guys.

Unfortunately, in the comic book series, Captain America dies during the Civil War. It's interesting because actor Chris Evans will still have one movie left in his Marvel contract after "Captain America 3."  Fans will have to continue wondering what role he would do next if Captain America dies. 

"Captain America 3" is expected to hit theaters on May 2016.
