Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) will be in next year's "Captain America: Civil War," but up to this point neither has been featured in any promotional material or trailer. According to the directors Joe and Anthony Russo during the Brazil Comic-Con (via Screen Rant), they will be more humorous compared to the other characters.

Anthony explained that the film is perhaps the darkest yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and despite all the characters being "good guys," they are being depicted at war with each other. He also confirmed that they are all likeable, smart people so there should be a serious issue at hand if they are forced to fight each other.

That being said, Russo confirmed that not every character carries the same baggage as the core Avengers team members. Some characters come in later into the story and don't have all the emotional history with the other characters. 

"So they don't have as much darkness to deal with in the film, so they can be a little lighter and more fun. I think the movie has a healthy balance between very serious, interesting and very surprising storytelling, and sort of light, fun wits and humor," Anthony explained. "Characters like Spider-Man and Ant-Man enter the story a little later."

Ant-Man's involvement was teased during the mid-credits scene in his solo film, where he will be called in to help Captain America break The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) out of a trap. He will then aid Captain America in his fight against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and the governing body pushing for the Sokovia Accords.

Screen Rant points out that Spider-Man's involvement is less clear. However, according to a report from ComicBookMovie, the Russo brothers always considered Spider-Man as their "Plan A" and would only turn to a different plan if the Marvel-Sony deal hadn't worked out.
