'Captain America: Civil War' news: Spider-Man to appear

The Amazing Spider-Man

The answer to the longstanding question of whether or not the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be in the upcoming super-charged Marvel film "Captain America: Civil War" may have finally been revealed, thanks to Robert Downey Jr. and a bunch of digging.

Entertainment Weekly was on the set of the film and was lucky enough to witness a big battle sequence that may or may not involve everyone's favorite wall-crawler. The site says that on the scene is a young man, presumably a double, donning the Spider-Man suit, except for the mask.

After making sure the man wearing the familiar red-blue suit was no cosplayer, EW confirms the participation of the wise-cracking superhero in "Captain America: Civil War," which was suspected by fans and media all along.

Add to that the remarks Downey aka Iron Man, who was also spotted chatting with the said Spider suit-clad young man, during an interview with the publication. The actor shared his conversation with Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, about how great the stories have evolved.

Recalling the chat, Downey remembered telling his co-star, "Wow, dude, look at this. We're now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the [canon]... Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man...?"

"I mean it's like wow, this thing is just crazy," he then said before Chris Evans, like the noble soldier he plays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, chimed in and said that Marvel doesn't always include in the films all the scenes they shoot and that may be the case for "Captain America: Civil War" too.

Notably, there's still no official confirmation of Spider-Man showing up in the film but the signs pointing to the character making an appearance very soon in its home universe are just too huge to ignore.

Whether or not fans will see Tom Holland suit up as the new Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War," only time will tell. The film releases May 5, 2016. A standalone fill for the web-slinger will be out July 2017.
