'Captain America: Civil War' plot spoilers: The Vision's motivations revealed

As previously reported, "Captain America: Civil War" will see the Avengers divided as some heroes side on Iron Man's (Robert Downey Jr.) team while others side with Captain America (Chris Evans). The Vision (Paul Bettany) has been shown to side with Iron Man. Speaking with Collider, Bettany explained what The Vision's stand on the conflict and his team is.

"I think he's very interested in what it means to be human and what love is," he says. "The only way one can guarantee one's loyalty is love. Loyalty is beyond logic, really. Logic doesn't really provide for loyalty. If your logic changes suddenly and things don't make sense, you can alter your allegiance, but love stops you from being able to do that."

Promotional materials and concept art showcase The Vision fighting alongside his creator Iron Man and it may be possible that Iron Man's passion for what he believes in is the "love" Bettany is referring to. It is also possible he loves Iron Man given that the latter is his creator.

It is also possible that The Vision is in fact working for Captain America and is actually spying on Iron Man's team and their plans. This spy work may also apply to Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who is also shown to side with Iron Man despite her strong relationship with Captain America.

According to a report from Cinema Blend, it is possible that The Vision is only temporarily working with Iron Man and may switch sides when he no longer agrees with Iron Man's ideals or goals.

Other than The Vision, Iron Man's team will comprise of War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Widow, and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), the newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Captain America, on the other hand, will be joined by Agent Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

"Captain America: Civil War" opens on May 6, 2016.
