Casting Crowns reaches new milestone, celebrates 10 million albums sold
The Christian band Casting Crowns has a lot to be thankful for. It just made record sales history with over 10 million albums sold.
But the group — composed of Mark Hall, Megan Garrett, Melodee Devevo, Juan DeVevo, Josh Mix, Chris Huffman, and Brian Scoggin — is not about to sit down contentedly, according to Breathe Cast.
In fact, the band plans to roll in the number with the upcoming release of their new album called "The Very Next Thing" on Sept. 16 under Beach Street and Reunion Records.
Terry Hemmings, president of CEO Provident Music Group, says it has been a huge honour for the studio to be representing the band. "The fact that Casting Crowns has done so, and in a relatively short period of time, clearly speaks to the power of the songs and the message this band has communicated over the last 13 years," he says. "It's a testimony to the impact of their hard work and dedication to ministry. We are so grateful to walk alongside Casting Crowns and be part of sharing their music with the world."
Casting Crowns shares that "The Very Next Thing" is filled with intimate songs and upbeat tracks that will definitely cater to a wide range of listeners.
Meanwhile, the band's frontman Hall faced a huge physical challenge last year after he found out that there was a solid mass in his right kidney that doctors said was cancerous. Thankfully, doctors were able to remove his kidney where the cancerous cells were attached.
During that time, Hall credited his Christian faith for keeping him strong. "My feelings kept slamming up against something solid in me, and that was the roots of my faith," Hall says in "The Church Boys" podcast.
One thing Hall learned from that experience is that God is who He says He is. He was inspired to create new music while dealing with cancer. That's the time when he wrote the song "Oh My Soul." Hall shares that it is all about Psalms 42:5, which reads, "Why, my soul, are you downcast? And why are you disquieted within me?"
"The night I found out, I sat down at the piano and wrote a song called, 'Oh My Soul' around that Scripture, because that's kind of where I was living at the moment," he says.
