'Castle' season 8 renewed or cancelled? Actress Stana Katic yet to renew contract

With less than a week away from the finale episode of "Castle" season 7, fans of the hit police procedural comedy drama are waiting for ABC's announcement on whether or not the show would see an eighth season. The fate of the series is currently in limbo as lead actress Stana Katic has yet to renew her contract for the show.

Katic seems to have been sending cryptic signals about her future in the series. For instance, during her TVLine interview last year, she was asked if "Castle" would return for season 8 and the actress said that a show should not overstay its welcome.

"If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it's better to stop when you're on top," she said.

Fans are now worried about the future of Katic's character Kate Beckett because of the synopsis for the upcoming season finale, which indicates that the detective will have to make a big decision regarding her career. Rumors have started to circulate that a major character in the show will die in the season finale, and fans are thinking that it would be Beckett who will pass away.

But executive producer Andrew Marlowe denied the reports in his recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying that no one will die in the season finale of "Castle."

"I think that we can say that if we were to come back next year, we would be coming back with all of our pieces intact. It's not a 'Grey's Anatomy' situation by any means," Marlowe said.

Does this mean that there is still a chance for Beckett to return next season?

ABC has yet to make an announcement about the show's fate, but fans can breathe a little as actor Nathan Fillion has reportedly signed for one more year in the show as the famous novelist Richard Castle.
