Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) faced the difficult decision in the season 7 finale of "Castle," wherein she had to either run for state senate or follow her long-term goals and become captain of her own precinct. The show's executive producers have now revealed in a report from Entertainment Weekly which choice Beckett takes.

According to the report, Beckett foregos running for senate and instead becomes captain of the 12th precinct. However, just because she attains her goal of being the boss of her own station doesn't mean she's going to be focusing on paperwork instead of continuing her duties in the field.

"What's exciting about that dynamic is that she's not going to be a traditional captain who is in the office," explained executive producer Terence Winter. "She's boots on the ground. She's still Beckett. She's going to be handling cases and she's going to be involved in the interrogation."

However, Beckett also has to deal with her new role as a supervisor to the whole police force under her jurisdiction. Winter explained that this new dynamic brings about interesting conflicts with Ryan (Seamus Dever), Esposito (Jon Huertas) and her new husband Castle (Nathan Fillion).

In a report from TVLine, Winter explained that Beckett's promotion will make Ryan and Esposito re-evaluate their own career goals. In doing so, they will get entangled in a few rough conflicts against each other.

This doesn't entirely mean that Beckett's career in politics is entirely over. Winter stated that they still have sights on that storyline although at this point, they haven't adapted that idea because they are still working on how a political career for the character would blend with how the series plays out. Winter added that Beckett's political career may open again in the future.

"Castle" season 8 premieres this Sept. 21.
