'Castle' season 8 cancelled or renewed: Show still in limbo

The fate of the eighth season of ABC's long-running crime procedural drama "Castle" is still up in the air, since Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, the main stars of the show, have yet to sign new contracts to reprise their roles as Richard Castle and Kate Beckett, respectively.

In his latest interview with TVLine, actor Seamus Dever, who portrays the role of Detective Kevin Ryan in the series, was asked about season 8.

"Nobody's talked to me about [re-signing for] Season 8, so that's where I'm standing. And I'd like some answers, because my mother-in-law is very concerned that I'm going to have to get a teaching job. [Laughs] It'd be nice to get some answers soon," Dever shared.

TV Guide also posted the statement from series executive producer David Amann about the season 8 uncertainty, saying that he is trying to prevent the distraction of the show's impending end during the production of the current season.

"We're hopeful that everything gets resolved," he said. "We have thought about a bunch [of] different scenarios, but our main obligation is just to our audience and delivering great shows. We're just building the best end of the season that we can."

But since there is no concrete news that will help establish the possibility of "Castle's" return next season, Dever speculates that the writers will just end season 7 with a cliffhanger instead of wrapping things up.

"I think we are headed toward to some sort of cliffhanger. We go back into the Beckett mythology and that might play strongly in the end," the actor said.

However, Dever is still hopeful that "Castle" season 8 will push through, but it seems it all depends on the decisions of the actors in question.

"From what I'm hearing, [the delayed renewal] is not from lack of want at the network level. They're very happy with the success of our show; it's just about getting everybody back to the table," Dever confessed.

"Castle" season 7 will air its season finale on March 30.
