'Castle' season 8 spoilers: Case of Beckett's mother far from over

Conspiracy theories will be put to rest in "Castle" season 8.ABC

The upcoming episodes of "Castle" season 8 will see the resolution of several conspiracy theories that perplex the fans, one being the true story behind Rick's (Nathan Fillion) disappearance during his wedding day with Kate (Stana Katic).

Showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul have been giving out hints on what to expect for the second half of the current installment. They said that Rick's temporary loss of memory during that fateful incident would be fully discussed in season 8. The explanation given before was reportedly incomplete. Another mystery that they will be tackling has something to do with LokSat and the powerful cartel Kate has been trying to take down for the past seasons.

The executive producers' interview with Deadline, however, hinted at a surprising plotline that viewers have previously thought to be closed already. When Kate put the handcuffs on Sen. William Bracken (Jack Coleman) for the murder of her mother back in season 6, everyone thought it was the end of the case that haunted Kate for the longest time. This incident even pushed Kate to join the police force, hoping that one day, she would put her mother's killer behind bars herself.

Bracken was a Presidential candidate before his controversial arrest. Kate took him away in front of the media while he was holding a press conference. Kate found the evidence to indict him for the murder — a tape of the Senator's admission of killing people. Bracken hired a hit man to silence Kate's mother, a New York civil rights attorney. Hawley hinted in his interview, however, that the case was not finished and that something would come up to resurrect it in season 8.

"This season was a little bit of a transition... We wanted to wrap up a lot of the threads of different conspiracies, Beckett's mother's murder, Castle's missing time. We wanted by the end of Season 8 to have gotten through all those — hopefully in a compelling and satisfying way," he said.

Castle" season 8 will return Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
