Cathedrals and cupcakes for visitors to York this summer
Visitors to York Minster and its grounds are in for a sweet treat over the summer with the arrival of a cupcake caravan.
The candy pink vintage caravan has taken up residence in York Minster's Dean's Park and cupcakes are top of the menu.
Also on offer will be hot and cold drinks, and ice cream - perfect for anyone who's just made the climb to the top of the minster's central tower.
The team behind the caravan - nicknamed 'Flo' - is from the nearby Crumbs Cupcakery. Visitors have until November to sample their homebaked goodies so if you're in the area, why not pull up a traditional deckchair and indulge away the warm summer afternoons.
"With the Minster itself packed with exciting displays, exhibitions and even its very own underground visitor attraction, Revealing York Minster, we simply do not have the room to offer catering within the cathedral walls, but we're confident that our visitors will be happy to enjoy the superb cakes and treats available from the Crumbs team just outside the West Door," says York Minster's Stephanie O'Gorman.
"Of course, with Dean's Park also proving a popular venue for picnickers and those seeking some al fresco tranquillity during the main tourism season, they'll also be able to pick up an ice-cream or delicious coffee, served with the Crumbs team's impeccable service and friendly smile, whilst they are here."
The cupcakes are baked fresh each day on the College Street premises of the Crumbs Cupcakery and use locally-sourced ingredients.
"Within the Cupcakery, we try and make everyone that walks through the door feel as if we are welcoming them to our house, so we're hoping that we can make our caravan in Dean's Park feel like we're sharing a fantastic day out," says Crumbs owner Danielle Goodhand. "Let's just hope that the sun shines so that everyone can enjoy this beautiful setting for their tasty treats."
Flo will be open daily until 2 November, from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
