Catholic Women’s Group Invites Labour MP to Support ‘Lads Mags’ Campaign
The National Board of Catholic Women has invited Crosby Labour MP Clair Curtis-Thomas to join its campaign to banish ‘lads mags’ to the top shelves of newsagents.
The invitation from the board comes after it learned of a bill introduced in parliament by Curtis-Thomas, who is also a Catholic, that would see unsuitable publications moved to the top shelf of newsagents, reports Catholic newspaper The Universal.
NBCW chairperson Angela Perkins said “enough is enough” and that something had to be done to tackle some of the sexually explicit pictures and materials on show in men’s magazines.
The board has just been awarded £25,000 by the First Communities Fund to run its interfaith media literacy campaign.
