Celebrity chef showcases recipes for fundraising church cookbook

|PIC1|Visitors to the UK’s largest Christian exhibition were treated to a mouth-watering demonstration by celebrity chef Kevin Woodford, which supported Congregational & General’s charity church cookbook Loaves, Fishes & More.

The current presenter of Channel 4’s Planet Cook was at the National Christian Resources Exhibition last week to cook a delicious three-course meal of smoked bacon and pea soup, Thai baked monkfish and raspberry millefeulle. The recipe will be included in the book being produced by the national church insurer and featuring recipes submitted by church leaders.

Launched earlier this year, the not-for-profit initiative will encourage cookery enthusiasts to submit original recipes for inclusion in the final publication. It will then be sold to help churches and local charities raise funds for their own causes, as well as making a contribution towards Christian Aid.

Margaret Slater, Marketing Manager at Congregational, said: “We were delighted to invite Kevin to CRE on our behalf to bring Loaves, Fishes & More to life with a truly engaging demonstration.

"The dishes he cooked were delicious and gave people a sneak preview of some of recipes likely to be included in the final book.

“We have already received a raft of submissions from church leaders and the public since we launched the appeal for recipes, and Kevin’s appearance served to further raise awareness of the project.”

The cookbook will comprise entries submitted by church leaders including the Archbishop of Canterbury and the general public.

Mr Woodford added: “I thoroughly enjoyed attending the event at Sandown Park as cooking in front of a live audience is something I love and I’m delighted that people seemed to enjoy it.

"Loaves, Fishes & More is such a creative way for people to help raise funds for churches across the country and I’m sure the final publication will appeal to the nation’s amateur cooks.”
