Celine Dion surprises fans with cover of Adele's 'Hello' on New Year's Eve
Is there a better way to end 2015 than hearing Celine Dion cover Adele's "Hello?"
During her New Year's Eve show at the Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas, the Canadian singer introduced her surprise number with a little joke.
"So tonight, if I may, I would like Adele to be part of our New Year's Eve," Dion told her audience.
The crowd roared with excitement, then laughed when she added, "So, don't panic, she's not in the building... Do we need to change the battery in my microphone? It kind of lost it a bit. Adele, hello? Hello?"
The 47-year-old "My Heart Will Go On" singer then belted the song.
Dion is just one of the many popular celebrities who gave their own rendition of the chart-topping song. Others who have sang their version of th song include pop star Demi Lovato during Seattle's Fall Ball, reggae artist Peddo Brian who covered the song while playing the ukulele, and YouTube star Amanda Cole. Claudio Sanchez, the vocalist of American alternative rock band Coheed and Cambria, also recently posted a moving version of Adele's latest single on his YouTube account.
Adele's hit song has been on its ninth consecutive week at the number 1 spot of the Billboard Top 100 in the US. It is also hailed as the first track that sold one million digital copies in just a span of week when it entered the top of the Digital Songs chart.
Dion's version of "Hello" incorporated her signature vocal riffs that suit the poignant song. She just tweaked the lyrics a little to wish her audience a happy new year.
The New Year's Eve show was part of Dion's Las Vegas residency, which she resumed back in August after quitting in 2014 to care for her husband Rene Angelil during his battle with throat cancer. It was also her first show after her return from Canada where she spent her Christmas break.
