At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, famous brands and companies showcase breakthroughs in tech devices. One of those participating is SanDisk, and they showcased the world's smallest flash drive with 1 terabyte (TB) of storage. The flash drive also supports Universal Serial Bus Type C (USB-C) connection.

Those familiar with tech may think that 1 TB on a flash drive is no big deal as computer company Kingston already introduced a flash drive capable of storing 2 TB. However, Kingston's design still looks and feels bulky while, SanDisk's flash drive is only a little bit bigger than a penny.

What is most interesting about the SanDisk flash drive, however, is that it uses USB-C connection instead of the usual USB 3.0 found in older devices. This makes copying and transferring larger files from Android to flash drive less of a hassle, as the SanDisk 1 TB drive can directly connect to the USB-C port on an Android smartphone.

USB-C offers faster transfer rates than USB 3.0, too, so transferring huge chunks of files will be quicker compared to a regular flash drive.

People may already need SanDisk's 1TB USB-C flash drive, but as of right now, the design is a prototype exclusively showcased at CES. No release date or pricing details were announced by the company yet.

Still, considering that a 1 TB SSD reportedly costs $350 according to The Verge, it is easy to imagine that the SanDisk 1 TB USB-C flash drive will not be cheap. Kingston's 2 TB flash drive itself costs $1,409.71 at Amazon and that's the discounted price— its full value costs $1,649.99. Similarly, a 1 TB hard drive form Kingston costs $850.

SanDisk is an Israeli-American company that is world-famous for producing flash storage. After becoming the third largest company to produce flash storage devices worldwide, they were acquired by hard drive manufacturer Western Digital.
