It looks like Tom Holland is getting ready to join "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Daisy Ridley in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi film "Chaos Walking." According to reports, the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" star is currently in talks to play "a boy forced to flee his town with his loyal dog and who comes upon a strange sight: a girl." Sounds like the film version of Todd Hewitt.

"Chaos Walking" is based on the young adult book series of the same name by Patrick Ness. The story is set in a dystopian future where humans colonized another planet after the Earth became uninhabitable. The world they came upon was dubbed the New World, and this planet was already inhabited when the humans arrived.

Soon after, all the women are killed by a germ allegedly released by the planet's native species known as the Spackle. That would explain why Holland's character is surprised to see a girl. Half of the men were killed as well, and the survivors gained the ability to hear each other's thoughts as a side effect of the germ. The cascading images, words, and sounds are called Noise.

The story begins with Todd discovering a patch of silence in a nearby swamp, and he eventually finds out that there are still women in this world when he meets Viola Eade.

Lionsgate may have found their lead protagonists for the film, but Variety has reported that their sources told them "Chaos Walking" isn't coming out anytime soon because Ridley, Holland, and director Doug Liman are still busy with their current projects. Their sources also say the project hasn't received the green light to start production.

Doug Davison and Allison Shearmur are producing the film, and Charlie Kaufman and Jamie Linden worked on the script.

Sources say the film is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2018.
