It's the end of the line for ABC Family's "Chasing Life." The show about an aspiring journalist named April (Italia Ricci), whose life was forever changed by a cancer diagnosis, came to an end in the 13th episode of its second season, which aired on Sept. 28.

In the cliffhanger ending, April learned from her doctors that her latest clinical trial wasn't working anymore, and so she used the tickets meant for her honeymoon for a trip to Italy instead. There, she revealed to her best friend Beth (Aisha Dee) and the love of her life Dominic (Richard Brancatisano) that she had decided that her cancer battle had ended and that she would just live the rest of her days with no regrets whatsoever.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Patrick Sean Smith said that he wanted the finale to go out "as big as possible, with as many question marks as possible."

"Everyone's life is up in the air," he added.

Had the show been renewed for a third season, Smith revealed there would be still a lot to explore because April's decision would impact everyone in her life, such as her oncologist uncle George. There's also the matter of Beth's pregnancy and Dominic and April's rekindled relationship.

According to THR, the drama was cancelled after an all-time series low of 486,000 total viewers. ABC Family's decision to cancel the series was reportedly due to the network's desire to focus on upcoming shows such as Nicky Minaj's comedy and "Shadowhunters," which is based on "The Mortal Instruments" novels by Cassandra Clare.

Regarding the show's second season, Smith told THR that they were "really proud" of what they were able to accomplish and that they worked hard to leave this season with a lasting impression on fans, as well as a lot of cliff hangers.

Meanwhile, fans of the show have started an online petition to bring "Chasing Life" back for a third season. On Oct. 3, Smith retweeted a post from fan Samantha Jane, which reads, "I am the first to make a petition, it currently has 1,500 signatures and counting."

As of posting, the online petition on Change, org has reached more than 2,400 signatures.
