"Chasing Life" has officially been cancelled by ABC Family, reports Variety, but that hasn't stopped showrunner and executive producer Patrick Sean Smith from campaigning for the series to get at least one more season in to finish its story.

The series, which focuses on the life of cancer-patient April (Italia Ricci), recently aired its season 2 finale, which has inevitably become the series' finale as well. The last episode saw April relocate to Italy where she decided she might stay for the remainder of her life, allowing her to move on from her husband's death and to finish writing her book.

Italia Ricci was the first to confirm via Twitter announcement that the series has been canceled. Smith has then taken the steps to launch a Twitter campaign to renew the series with the hashtag "#RenewChasingLife."

Smith has also been retweeting fan sites that have been petitioning to renew the show in hopes that ABC Family might pick up the series for one more season.

It is pointed out by Variety that while the first season garnered strong ratings, viewership numbers dropped during the second season. However, Smith pointed out in the report that the show does have avid fans, particularly after the response from viewers when the second season killed off a fan-favorite character, Leo (Scott Michael Foster).

"In this day and age, to have an audience react so strongly and loudly about anything is a good thing," Smith explained, pointing out that the show became a top trending topic on Facebook for more than two days.

At the time, Smith explained that season 3 would have seen the show and its main character have a lot of possibilities to do and new directions to go in, hinting that a soft reboot could have been in the works to give the series a fresh new tone and style.
