Chelsea confirmed on their website the move of defender Baba Rahman from Bundesliga club FC Augsburg, although no information regarding the amount of the deal was revealed.

The Daily Mail reported that Rahman is waiting for the confirmation of a $21.7 million deal.

"I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I can't wait to train with my new team-mates and very much looking forward to working with them and Mr. Mourinho," Rahman said according to the club's website.

He added, "I am also looking forward to having the opportunity to meet the fans as soon as possible."

In a report by the Daily Mirror, Augsburg general manager Stefan Reuter said Rahman developed greatly during his one year with the club and joining Chelsea is a reward for all of the 21-year-old defender's hard work.

Before his move gets completed, Rahman thanked Augsburg and discussed his decision of departing the club to join the Blues.

Rahman said in a statement, according to the club's official website, that leaving was not an easy decision but called the move to Chelsea a "big opportunity."

"For me, last season was absolutely amazing. I am very proud to have been a part of this fantastic team," Rahman said about his stay at Augsburg.

He also thanked the fans for the support and wished Augsburg all the best, hoping for another great season for the club.

According to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, the addition of Rahman is important because it will promote competition for certain positions.

"It is important because he is a left-back, so he can compete with [Cesar] Azpilicueta. At the same time, Azpilicueta can compete with [Branislav] Ivanovic for the right-back position, so he replaces Filipe Luis in the balance of the squad," Mourinho said, according to BBC Sports.

The defending Premier League champions suffered a 3–0 defeat in the hands of Manchester City in their last match and will take on  West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
