The Chevy Silverado series is known to be a heavyweight among the best luxury trucks out there. However, the Chevy 2019 Silverado goes against the grain by shedding weight.

Lots of previously unknown details about the 2019 Silverado were shown during a pre-Detroit Auto Show event.

Chevrolet's upcoming Silverado looks like a larger truck compared to its predecessors, and it actually is. However, Chevrolet innovated their material this time, using a different mix of metals to retain its burly design, yet actually removing a lot of pounds.

Particularly, the upcoming pickup truck is said to have removed around 450 pounds of weight. The new mix of metals used by Chevrolet heavily relies on aluminum.

The use of aluminum can be immediately seen throughout the truck's frame. Particularly, areas that recieve less weight and tension such as its doors, hood, and tailgate are the ones made from the light material. This allowed Chevy to increase the truck's dimensions while keeping its weight down.

This gives potential buyers a lot of promise, especially those who are looking for a twist in specs for the Silverado series.

While some may wary about its strength after the weight loss, Chevrolet advertised that the truck would have a 10 percent increase in rigidity.

The enlarged truck along with increased rigidity are mostly attributed to its steel bed. While it uses aluminum for the other parts, the 2019 Silverado has a wider and longer steel bed made from high-strength steel.

General Motors Product Chief Mark Reuss explained that Chevrolet will not be using aluminum for its bedding. Something that Ford, an American multinational automaker, did with its F-150 model.

"I don't think you'd get much work done with an aluminum hammer," Reuss said during the pre-Detroit Auto Show event.

Besides the change in material and weight, Chevrolet also promised better fuel economy as a result of the changes. This is accompanied by a Duramax diesel inline-six feature with a capacity of three liters.

More information such as the price and release date are rumored to be revealed in the latter weekend of the North American International Auto Show, which spans from Jan. 14 until Jan. 29.
