'Chicago Med' news: Jeff Hephner reprises 'Chicago Fire' character

Jeff Hephner will reprise his 'Chicago Fire' role as Jeff Clarke in 'Chicago Med.' NBC

Jeff Clarke (Jeff Hephner) will have a change of career as he transfers from "Chicago Fire" to become the latest cast member of "Chicago Med."

According to an exclusive report from TVLine, Hephner will appear in the first season finale of "Chicago Fire," where fans of the show will find out that firefighter Jeff went back to school to resume his medicine education. This time, Jeff is already a fourth-year medical student who is currently working on rotation in the hospital's emergency department. He will also return to the series for multiple episodes in its sophomore season.

Hephner was last seen in "Chicago Fire" season 2, before leaving to star in the short-lived "Agent X" in TNT. He also had a brief role in CBS' medical drama "Code Black."

Meanwhile, more dramatic cases will be encountered by the doctors in the next episode of "Chicago Med," titled "Hearts."

According to the synopsis for the episode, a patient will barge into the ER saying that he needs immediate medical attention because his heart is pounding inside his head. This will leave Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) and Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) with no other choice but to think of ways to appease the patient.

The rest of the synopsis reads:

"Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) works on a young boy with a broken wrist, but her suspicions abound when the facts don't add up, prompting her to report the situation to Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) and Dr. Charles, who must make a serious decision. Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) impresses Dr. Downey (guest star Gregg Henry) with his skills inside the operating room, but the pressure takes a toll. Elsewhere, Will (Nick Gehlfuss) receives news about the pending lawsuit, April (Yaya DaCosta) feels a spark in her social life and Sarah (Rachel DiPillo) tries to determine the cause of her recent anxiety."

The next episode of "Chicago Med" airs on Tuesday, April 19, on NBC.
