The Chicago Cubs will be missing the services of catcher David Ross after he was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Saturday.

According to ESPN, Ross, 38, was hit by two foul balls in his mask Wednesday against the New York Mets before feeling concussion symptoms Thursday.

Before getting hit Wednesday, the catcher was also hit on the head by a backswing Tuesday.

Because of Ross' absence, the Cubs recalled catcher Taylor Teagarden from Triple-A Iowa before Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins, ESPN added.

"I had a three-day headache that was going on and some nausea and some small symptoms that were going on the day after I got hit with a couple foul balls," Ross said Saturday, according to CSNChigaco.com.

"It's nice for the seven-day DL where you can take a step back. I think the main concern is just getting another foul ball. I had that happen a couple of years ago, and it put me out about two months. I don't want to go through that again," he added.

Ross already suffered two concussions in his second stint with the Boston Red Sox in 2013 and was placed on the disabled list for two months during that time, according to ESPN.

Cubs starting catcher Miguel Montero will now take Ross' place as a personal catcher for starting pitcher Jon Lester.

"I know that Miggy and Jon have been talking. I know that David's going to be very helpful talking to Miggy about the moment," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said of the situation, according to ESPN.

"It could be something that could benefit us down the line just in case something else were to happen. Or if you get into the playoffs, you might want to do something different," Maddon added.

The Cubs are currently at 44-36 coming off two consecutive wins against the Marlins and will take on the St. Louis Cardinals next in a four-game home series.
