Kelly Severide's (Taylor Kinney) new romance will complicate matters for him in the upcoming season of NBC's series "Chicago Fire."

TV Line reports that the firefighter will have his share of problems in season 4, starting when he is demoted and forced to go to a management training program. It seems that the higher ups are not happy with the high turnover rate of the crew and they credit Severide for the setback. They want him to take a short course to improve his administrative skills.

While there, he will be meeting a woman (played by Rachel Nichols) and they will have a brief affair. The romance, however, will be causing troubles later on for the firefighter. In an interview, executive producer Matt Olmstead revealed this new twist to Severide's storyline.

"[Kelly] has to go to a management trainee [program]. There he meets [Nichols' character]...who is also a troubled manager at her law firm. They're kindred spirits who meet, essentially, in detention, and there's a romance there that turns into a fairly large complication going forward," said Olmstead.

Meanwhile, in a promotion clip released by NBC, viewers got more information about Casey's (Jesse Spencer) abduction. While Dawson (Monica Raymund) is calling P.D.'s Voight (Jason Beghe) and Antonio (Jon Seda) for help, Nesbitt (Eric Mabius) and his goons are pointing a gun at the firefighter. At the end of the promo, shots can be heard.

Olmstead assured the fans that while Casey will live another day, the ordeal will leave a lasting mark on him and haunt him for many weeks after. He said that the character "had to punch his way out" in order to survive the nightmare. While recuperating, Casey will also try to figure out his relationship with Dawson, who is pregnant with his child.

Will the firefighter pull through? "Chicago Fire" will return on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
