'Chicago P.D.' season 3 spoilers: Premiere to explore aftermath of Lindsay's downward spiral

Chicago PDNBC

"Chicago P.D." season 2 ended on a shocking note with Nadia's sudden death. Lindsay was the most affected since Nadia was her closest friend in the series. The last episode showed Lindsay quitting the force and was on a downward spiral with drugs, alcohol, men, and other bad habits that could break her as a person.

According to a report from Fashion Style, the showrunners have not yet decided if there will be a time jump following the events of season 2 or if they will start just hours or a day after the last scene in the finale. Actress Sophia Bush had given it a thought and stated she wanted the show to explore her character's troubles before she eventually gets back to work.

In a report by Inquisitr, Bush stated that she wants season 3 to pick up just a day after the season 2 finale and wants Lindsay's problems to take a few episodes before finally being resolved. This would allow the audience to see the troubled officer at her lowest point, and also have time for her character to further develop.

"As much as I agreed that she would make a very immediate, cutthroat decision about the wrong working environment at the task force, I would like for this to not wrap itself up so quickly," she explained.

No matter how the next season will start, Lindsay is going to be in a devastated state. According to the Fashion Style report, it is possible that the season will pick up a month after the finale and that means Lindsay may have gone too far down, completely ruining her life. This would mean that the first few episodes of the next season may focus on getting her back in shape, restoring her humanity, and eventually getting her back on the task force.

As Bush stated, it may be an interesting plot arc if the series does not resolve Lindsay's problem in just one episode.

"Chicago P.D." season 3 is scheduled to premiere this fall.
