Erin Lindsay's (Sophia Bush) self-destructive mode continues in the pilot episode of "Chicago P.D." season 3.

Lindsay remains wallowing in guilt after the death of her close friend Nadia Decotis (Stella Maeve) at the hands of a serial killer during the special cross-over episode with "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" season 16. Before the end of "Chicago P.D." season 2, Lindsay handed her badge over to her mentor and Intelligence Unit head Sergeant Henry Voight (Jason Beghe), and spiraled out of control by drinking and using drugs.

In the premiere episode of "Chicago P.D." season 3 titled "Life Is Fluid," Lindsay will be seen in the same sad state. But will the beloved Chicago P.D. Intelligence Unit detective find a reason to live this season?

Series executive Matt Olmstead recently talked about Lindsay and other things to look forward to in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. In the interview, he revealed that Lindsay will go the easiest way to grieve the loss of her friend.

According to Olmstead, Lindsay was deeply hurt when Nadia died because she was grooming her to become a police offiecer, just like Voight did when she was younger. Unfortunately, she failed to protect Nadia, which makes her feel bad about herself and her job as a police officer. This will reportedly be Lindsay's ordeal in the first few episodes of the season.

Olmstead also teased that Lindsay's colleagues will have mixed reactions to Linsday's situation. While Voight is obviously saddened by Lindsay's development, her partner Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) believes that she can still snap out of her depression and return to work soon.

But in the upcoming season premiere episode, Halstead will no longer recognize Lindsay because of the changes happening to her.

"There's a scene in the first episode when he sees her and he didn't even recognize her. It's just not the person he knows. Then he tells her when he sees her, 'Look, if you ever see Lindsay again, tell her she made me a better cop,' and walks away, because she's fully committed to just partying and not facing essentially everything in her life," the series creator shared.

NBC will feature the return of "Chicago P.D." season 3 on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 10 p.m. Viewers can also watch the season premiere online via the official NBC website and Hulu.
