The women from "Chicago P.D." will stand by each other as Patrol Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) deals with the heartbreak after breaking off her engagement with Police Officer Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) in the previous episode in season 3.

Ruzek proposed to Burgess during the second season finale, but things began to look shaky in season 3 since he seemed to be uninterested with the preparations for the wedding. First, Ruzek asked Burgess to postpone their wedding. But when he told her that they have to postpone their plans to move in together, the female police officer finally realized that they need to reassess their whole relationship individually.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Squerciati talked about the implication of her character's failed engagement with Ruzek, and how Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) will help her deal with the pain of a broken relationship.

According to the actress, Burgess and Ruzek still love each other. But she believes that Ruzek is just not ready to get married yet.

"He knows he wants to be with her, but he's not ready to be in a committed relationship," Squerciati explained.

The actress also revealed that Burgess and Lindsay will finally work closely with each other, and her character's current situation will make them closer.

"The advice that Lindsay gives me coming up is really interesting in terms of how women are viewed in the force and how maybe you can't outwardly show how this is affecting you because we have to be a little stronger, a little braver, and it's really good advice. It's sad too," she revealed.

Squerciati also talked about the rumored complications between Burgess and Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty) after she broke up with Ruzek. Rumors claimed that the two could possibly have something between them which could get Ruzek jealous. But the actress claimed that she still has to know what's in store for them as the series rolls out.

Meanwhile, the official synopsis for the next episode titled "Hit Me" reads:

"Lindsay goes undercover in an effort to track down a rogue police officer targeting women leaving a local casino. When Detective Martin Watts (guest star Erik Jensen), who oversees all cases out of the casino, gets word of the investigation he becomes involved much to Voight's (Jason Beghe) dismay. After recent events, Burgess sets plans in motion to transfer Districts pending Platt's (Amy Morton) approval and Mouse (guest star Samuel Hunt) attempts to lift Ruzek's spirits by offering to set him up with a friend. Meanwhile, Antonio (Jon Seda) volunteers to take Roman's place in the upcoming boxing match against Jimmy (guest star Steven R. McQueen) from Firehouse 51."

The next episode of "Chicago P.D." season 3 airs Wednesday, Feb. 3, on NBC.
