Friends and Heroes announced today, at the opening of NEXUS Scotland, that their self-titled animated series for 6 to 10-year-olds will be shown on BBC2 starting on Tuesday 11 September 2007.

Broadcast as part of the channel's educational output, this means that all 20,000+ primary schools throughout the UK will have access to the programme for the first time.

Free lessons plans, created in association with The Stapleford Centre and given a "Five Star" top rating by users of the TES Resource Bank, are available from the Friends and Heroes website.

Set during a fascinating and turbulent period in our history - the first century AD - Friends and Heroes places children's action-adventure stories within a vivid historical context. It demonstrates why Bible stories were preserved and passed on and shows the impact the stories and their preservation had on those who kept them alive.

"The adventure stories take place almost two thousand years ago, yet Macky and the gang will appeal to today's children; they are attractive, inspirational, very real characters - funny and brave and they don't always get things right! They face similar issues and dilemmas to those faced by youngsters today," said Friends and Heroes.
