The Children’s Society, which was voted six weeks ago as Premier Christian Radio’s ‘Charity of the Year’, has been working with the radio station to gather donations so that it can send emergency kit bags, known as ‘big bags’ to Children facing nights on the streets.

The two organisations have been working towards this goal, and in a newly released Premier Radio announcement the Christian radio station has donated money equal to 1,000 of these emergency kits to the charity from its listeners.

The monetary value of the donation will be equal to approximately £15,000, which is a great achievement so far, seeing that there is still a long way to go in the year-long campaign.

The Chief Executive of Premier Radio, Peter Kerridge has credited the success of the size of the money gathered so far to the station’s dedicated listeners.

Kerridge commented, "Our listeners are highly responsive to campaigns and programmes because of the strong relationship we have built up with them. With initiatives like our dedicated helpline Premier Lifeline, the communication between the station and our listeners is a two way process."

He continued, "We want to thank our listeners for the huge response they’ve given us with the big bag appeal. Each bag will go to help a child faced with a night on the streets. In six weeks alone our listeners have directly helped over 1000 children."

Over the next year The Children’s Society will continue to work with the radio station on various projects, including allowing Premier to broadcast live and direct from a number of events held by the charity. These events will include among others the London Bridges Walk.

In addition for The Children’s Society’s events such as interviewing children helped by the charity will also be broadcast exclusively on Premier Radio to encourage listeners and staff workers at the station to take part in the various initiatives of the charity.

The Children’ Society Chief Executive, Bob Reitemeier said, "This is a tremendous response and we are very grateful to Premier’s listeners. Together we are living out our Christian values by reaching out to some of the most disadvantaged children in society."
