American model Chrissy Teigen has been on the receiving end of criticism after she and her singer husband John Legend used in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) for her to conceive. The procedure allowed them to choose the gender of their child.

According to The Christian Post, people were upset because the couple were trying to play God when they selected their child's gender. One Twitter user said she "used to like" Teigen before she announced the process of her pregnancy, since the model was "messing with the natural blessing from God."

Bashers suggested that Teigen probably chose her baby's eye colour, hair colour, and several other things.

But Teigen is not taking the insults lying down. The expectant mother wrote back to her bashers on her Twitter account (@chrissyteigen): "My natural blessing from (God) was infertility."

Those who underwent the same ordeal with infertility lauded Teigen for being open about her experience and slammed her "haters."

"People are rude. It's not like you did IVF just to select the gender," someone commented. "Thanks for being open about infertility."

Another shared: "I'm in the same position, except we chose the random sex option....God Bless you & John, I'm sure you'll be awesome parents!"

Earlier, Teigen told PEOPLE that she wanted a girl simply because she knew what an amazing father Legend would be to a daughter.

"It excited me to see... just the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond. A boy will come along. We'll get there too, so it's not like we really have to pick," she shared. "But he definitely is very lucky to have a little girl. And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa — it's crazy!"
