|TOP|Many Christians do not have confidence in what they believe or know how to explain it, an evangelism training expert has claimed.

Rev Ian Field, who took over as national director at Evangelism Explosion (EE) earlier this month, also said, "EE works on the principle that you don't really know a thing until you can explain it effectively.

"It shows people how to share the Good News in a way that makes sense in a society bombarded with competing belief systems,” he said in The Good News.

The 41-year-old has previously held the position of lead chaplain in a high security prison with a high percentage of Muslims, Sikhs and people of other religions, a role that strengthened his ability to give an effective testimony of his faith.

|AD|"Muslim Imams, Buddhists, pagans and Christians of different persuasions - all of them worked on my team. Being able to explain in a simple and powerful way what Christians believe made all the difference," he says.

"You need backbone and confidence to lead a team like that. We gained real respect because everyone understood where we were coming from."

Field was minister of Harborough Evangelical Church for 13 years where he consistently saw growth - numerically and spiritually.

He has taken over as national director of EE following the retirement of Peter Crook.
Field maintains that personal evangelism through the local church is God's plan.

"Many believers would love to lead friends and family to Christ, but don’t know how – and this is where EE works," he says.

"The Christian life can be a thrilling adventure."
