A Christian-owned broadcasting company delivering Christian programming and live news began airing in Mongolia’s capital city this month after having served nearly 10 years as the only local television station in the country openly sharing the Gospel message.

|TOP|Eagle Broadcasting Company (EBC), owned by the Sioux Falls-based Christian ministry AMONG, began broadcasting on Oct. 22 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia as a cable news network in association with SANSAR cable TV. EBC has been operating in Mongolia since Jan. 17, 2005, broadcasting live news from sources such as Associated Press and from the Eagle TV studios in addition to running Christian programs.

“This is an exciting moment for our staff and all who have loved Eagle TV for so long,” said Tom Terry, Managing Director of Eagle Broadcasting Company in a statement released by EBC.

EBC, formerly known as Eagle TV, was closed down in April 2003 leaving “many Mongolians ... heartbroken at having lost independent news through television,” said Terry. During the two year period, the new Eagle Broadcasting Company was formed and was committed to “creating a new and even better Eagle TV.”

In a statement released by EBC on Oct. 18, the EBC director listed the upcoming plans for the radio station.

“We are working on a plan to expand our broadcast day with live Mongolian news content from 7am-midnight, 7 days a week. Our goal is to initiate the new schedule by the last week of November,” said Terry.

“We are also developing a new video-based Bible-telling strategy called Steppe-by-Steppe that Eagle ministry teams will take to the Aimags and countryside areas beginning mid-2006.”

In addition, “our Christian ministries division is expanding with the addition of 22 new staff planned for January 2006, to add new children’s programming to our line-up, as well as our Steppe-by-Steppe outreach,” Terry stated.

For nearly 10 years, the former Eagle TV operated as the only independent voice in journalism and was also the only local television station in the north Asian country openly sharing the Gospel message. The new Eagle Broadcasting Company is now wholly owned by AMONG Foundation – a group dedicated to advancing faith and freedom in Mongolia through television with more than 20,000 people having been reached in Mongolia through AMONG’s Christian services.
