Christians dominate 'American Idol' Top 10; Finalists glorify God in the singing contest
Talented Christian singers have dominated the final Top 10 on "American Idol" on ABC, as six of the contestants have expressed their faith and glorified God through the singing competition.
On Monday, "American Idol" revealed its diverse Top 10 finalists after several rounds of performances. The 10 will move on to the live competition on Sunday, May 6, where viewers can vote for who should advance to the next round.
Since appearing on the show, Cade Foehner has been using the chance to proclaim his faith to a wider audience. A minister who loves to croon to rock & roll, Foehner stated in an interview that he wants to spread the Gospel through his music.
The rest of the contestants who did not shy away from talking about their Christian faith included country music enthusiast Caleb Hutchinson, Gospel choir singer Gabby Barrett, Philadelphia native and music student Michael J. Woodward, R&B singer and dad Dennis Lorenzo, and Venezuelan immigrant Michelle Sussett.
Foehner and Hutchinson have actually gotten along well on "American Idol" because of their shared faith. On Instagram, Hutchinson shared a photo of him and Foehner and thanked him for their friendship.
The minister replied to his new friend in the comments, "You make me want to serve Our Lord all the more," Foehner said. "I see your good works and I glorify Him."
Some of the "American Idol" Christian finalists used their social media accounts to post messages of thanks to God after making it to the Top 10.
Woodward said that the glory "goes to the King of Kings," while Sussett also thanked her church, the Iglesia Casa de Poder Miami, for supporting her in her "American Idol" journey. Lorenzo, on the other hand, acknowledged his "amazing God" and also told his followers to "never let anyone tell you that you can't."
"American Idol" will name its winner in the grand finale on Monday, May 21, at 9:00 p.m. on ABC. Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan are on the judges' panel.
