Even a non-believer thinks Christians understand God's Word better than Muslims do.

For atheist evolutionary biologist and author Richard Dawkins, followers of Christianity have "more sense" compared to Muslims who take verses from their Scriptures literally, as in the case of a Muslim boy who cut off his own hand after he was publicly accused of blasphemy.

According to The Gospel Herald, Dawkins recently tweeted this to his over 1.3 million followers: "Jesus said, 'If thy right hand offend thee cut it off.' But Christians have more sense than to take it literally."

The atheist was citing Matthew 5:30, where Jesus preached about sins: "And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

Dawkins, who authored the controversial book "God's Delusion" debunking the existence of a supernatural creator, was apparently reacting to news about 15-year-old Mohammad Amwar, who mutilated his own hand, following wrongful accusations from a Muslim cleric that he mocked the Prophet Mohammad.

When asked if he regretted his decision to cut off his own hand, the Muslim boy responded: "Why should I feel any pain or trouble in cutting off the hand that was raised against the Holy Prophet? I didn't feel any pain when I chopped it off so why would I feel any now? The hand that commits blasphemy should be chopped off."

Author Randy Alcorn, for his part, reminded religious believers that the Scriptures should not be taken literally.

"With this hyperbolic language (which is not misleading because people knew it was hyperbole), Jesus is simply saying, 'Be radical. Take whatever steps are necessary to keep yourself away from the temptation to sin. Follow me wholeheartedly," Alcorn told The Gospel Herald, referring to Matthew 5:30.
