Christians promise to vote

Premier Christian Media has presented Parliament with a declaration signed by over 25,000 Christians stating their promise to vote in the General Election.

Peter Kerridge, Chief Executive at Premier, handed the declaration to the Serjeant-at-Arms, Jill Cheeseman, at 1 Parliament Street.

"We have seen a fantastic response to 'Promise to Vote'. We are still getting hundreds of sign-ups, adding to the tens of thousands of Christians already that have joined together to show Parliament that the Christian vote really matters," said Kerridge.

'Promise to Vote' asks Christians across the UK to pledge to vote using their Christian conscience. The campaign has received backing from prominent Christian leaders, including Jonathan Edwards, General Secretary of the Baptist Union.

The Archbishop of Westminster, Vincent Nichols, and the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, issued similar rallying calls to the Christian electorate, underlining the importance and value of voting.

"Many have lost their lives in the fight to deliver universal suffrage for the British people. It is right that Christians should engage with politics. It is right that they have a say over who represents them in Parliament and creates laws that govern us," commented Archbishop Sentamu.

Premier Christian Media are calling for Christians to keep the campaign momentum going.

"We've had a great start, but with 7% of the country attending church weekly, there are still more Christians who can lend their voice to the campaign," added Kerridge.

"With the help of these Christians we can make an even greater impact."
