'Chrono Trigger' PC news: Fans say PC port gives no justice to the original game

Those who have been into role-playing games (RPG) would have probably tried out one of the arguably best classic RPGs, "Chrono Trigger." With a PC port being released just recently via Steam, many fans have hurriedly tried out the game once more. However, it does not seem to be doing quite as well as developer Square Enix may have expected.

The Windows PC release of the game included features that were originally exclusive to the Nintendo DS, iOS and Android versions of the game. These included bonus dungeons, optimized graphics, auto-save feature and some others, per Polygon.

At first that may look like a normal move for Square Enix to do for such a great game to be released on the PC. Now it looks like the PC version was just half-baked. It turns out that the PC game is actually just a direct port of the iOS and Android versions of the game. This then makes no difference for gamers when playing on their PC and when playing on their mobile devices or the DS.

Players feel quite ripped off. After all, games that get ports on the PC would usually have better graphics, more features and whatnot but "Chrono Trigger" on the PC offers nothing new. In fact, one game developer made a visual comparison juxtaposing a photo from the official PC version and the DS version via a DS emulator on PC.

Needless to say, there is really not much difference. Aside from the sharper colors of the official PC version, there is nothing else new to notice. Playing "spot the difference" would be quite useless.

Of course, there are still a few who want to play the game on their PC although they could have gotten it on their mobile devices. While it is quite disappointing to many, the gameplay, of course, and the story remain the same.
