'Civilization 6 release date: official trailer unveils release date and gameplay tweaks

Civilization VI2k Games, Fireaxis Games

2K Games and Fireaxis Games have officially released the first teaser trailer for "Civilization VI." The game will follow the trend of older "SId Meier's Civilization" titles, allowing players to build an empire from the ground up. "Civilization VI" has been announced to launch on Oct. 21.

As stated in a report from Cinema Blend, the trailer does not give any footage of the game in action but instead focuses on a narration by actor Sean Bean and music by John Murphy. The trailer does give the impression of the game's goals of building a long-lasting empire and does end with the official release date announcement.

Mechanics and gameplay details are instead laid out on the game's official website. The game will focus on building a single empire from the Stone Age up to the Information Age, the modern age, although Cinema Blend points out that it may be possible the game will go beyond this, as was done in "Civilization: Beyond Earth."

It is also explained that the combat system from "Civilization V" has been taken and improved upon. Whereas the first game allowed only one unit to occupy a tile, the follow-up will now allow support units to join with the main unit to form a special "Corp" unit.

"Civilization VI" is also said to cater to both veterans of the franchise and for novices alike. Veterans will be able to take advantage of the new systems and build categories while novices will be able to grasp the mechanics of the game due to the addition of more tutorials and hand-holding features to guide players in achieving their goals.

According to Game Rant, the AI is also being reworked from the ground up to guarantee better gameplay. Mechanics that worked in the previous game will be implemented in the new one, albeit with further improvements and streamlining to make it suitable for all types of players.
